1
Alpilles Backroads & Provençal Villages

After arriving in Provence, you’ll meet your fellow travelers and the Nostalgic team at the hotel. Outside, the beautifully prepared classic Mercedes-Benz SL roadsters are waiting in the Mediterranean sun. Following a driver briefing and roadbook introduction, your first scenic drive leads through pine forests, limestone hills, and quiet country roads around Salon-de-Provence. In the hilltop village of Pélissanne, cafés and shaded squares offer the perfect first stop. The evening begins with a relaxed aperitif before a traditional Provençal dinner at Auberge du Vieux Village.

2
Avignon, Lavender Roads & Gordes

Today is classic Provence at its finest. Your route crosses the Alpilles and passes the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Frigolet before reaching the Rhône River and historic Avignon. During a guided tour, discover the medieval streets, Papal Palace, and elegant squares that made Avignon one of France’s most important cities. In the afternoon, the drive continues into the Luberon region, where lavender fields, vineyards, and stone villages create postcard-perfect scenery. The hilltop village of Gordes, perched dramatically above the valley, is one of the highlights of the journey.

,
3
Arles & the Wild Camargue

The landscape changes completely today as you enter the Camargue — a unique region of marshes, salt flats, flamingos, wild horses, and black bulls. Before reaching the coast, you stop in Arles, where Roman ruins, narrow streets, and Provençal markets inspired artists such as Vincent van Gogh. There’s time to explore the famous amphitheater and old town before continuing south through the Camargue nature reserve. In the evening, you gather in the charming village of Lourmarin for dinner and a relaxed final night in Provence.

,
4
Lavender Fields & Farewell to Provence

Your final driving day begins among some of Provence’s most beautiful lavender landscapes near Gordes. With the top down and the scent of lavender in the air, you continue across the Durance River and follow scenic roads through the Luberon countryside. Small villages, vineyards, and château-lined roads make for a memorable finale behind the wheel of your vintage Mercedes-Benz SL. After a leisurely Provençal lunch at a local bistro, you return to the hotel before your transfer to Marseille Airport.

France

Provence is one of Europe’s great classic driving destinations. Between the Mediterranean coast and the Rhône Valley, winding country roads connect Roman cities, hilltop villages, vineyards, and dramatic limestone landscapes. For decades, artists, writers, and travelers have been drawn here by the region’s light, colors, and relaxed way of life.

The Alpilles and Luberon regions are especially perfect for classic car touring. Quiet backroads wind through olive groves, lavender fields, cypress-lined lanes, and medieval villages such as Gordes and Lourmarin. Along the way, Roman history appears everywhere — from the amphitheater in Arles to ancient roads and aqueducts that still shape the landscape today.

In Avignon, Gothic palaces and stone squares recall the era when the city served as the seat of the papacy. Further south, the Camargue offers an entirely different atmosphere: vast wetlands filled with flamingos, white horses, black bulls, and endless skies. It’s one of the most distinctive natural regions in France.

Provençal cuisine is equally memorable. Fresh seafood, olive oil, herbs, lavender honey, local rosé wines, and classic dishes like bouillabaisse and daube provençale reflect the flavors of southern France at their best. Combined with elegant hotels, scenic driving roads, and the timeless character of the Mercedes-Benz SL, this journey captures the essence of Provence in true grand touring style.

Our Guests Say It Best

Discover what our guests say about this tour. Real experiences from drivers and travelers who have explored Europe’s most beautiful roads with us.

Our trip was exceptional

The organisation of our trip was exceptional from the pick up at the airport to returning on Sunday. We were made very welcome by Felix and Adrian, both of whom possess exacting attention to detail and worked very hard on behalf of the guests. The cars magical, a choice each day and a joy to drive. The group was made up of friendly and interesting people, the restaurants for dinner and lunch were a good choice and the food enjoyable. We shared laughs, photos and stories of our drives each day.

Robin & Susan O`Neill,

It was truly beyond belief!

The time we had with our family is beyond words. The event itself was just fantastic. Your accommodations for us after the tour were over the top and eased our angst. We look forward to another trip with Nostalgic Tours in the future. It was truly beyond belief! Thank you so much for everything,

Meticulous attention to detail

Our base hotel accommodation was premium. Walter and his staff had arranged spectacular drives through the Alps Maritimes and the Route Napoleon. As expected, the cars were in impeccable condition. The selection of side tours, points of interest, rest stops and restaurants were excellent. Every meal was memorable. Walter and his staff looked after us in every situation. They engender a level of confidence and enthusiasm that is made possible only by thorough planning, years of experience and meticulous attention to detail…..and an uncanny ability to anticipate the wishes and expectations of their clients. In addition to the wonderful experience that the tours offer, we have made close friendships among those with whom we shared these experiences. This is an unexpected and priceless reward. We are eagerly anticipating our next nostalgic.de experience.
