Piedmont Driving Experience – Alfa Romeo

Great Wines, Rolling Hills & Hidden Italian Roads

June

About This Tour

Drive a classic Alfa Romeo Spider through the vineyard roads and rolling hills of Piedmont and the Langhe region. This guided classic car tour combines scenic Italian backroads with Barolo wineries, historic villages, truffle culture, and some of the finest food and wine experiences in Italy.

The roads of Piedmont are made for classic Alfa Romeo touring — quiet hilltop routes, sweeping vineyard curves, and panoramic mountain views stretching toward the Alps. Along the way, discover the regions behind Barolo, Barbaresco, Nutella, truffles, and traditional Italian hospitality.

1
Barolo & the Langhe Hills

Arrival in Piedmont and transfer from Turin Airport to your hotel in Benevello. After introducing the Alfa Romeo Spider fleet and roadbook, your first drive leads into the hills of Barolo wine country. A private winery visit offers an introduction to the wines and landscapes that define the Langhe before returning through winding panoramic roads to the hotel.

Beyond the vineyards

Today we point the Alfa Romeos south and explore a side of Piedmont few visitors ever see. Quiet country roads take us toward Ceva for a coffee stop and then on to Vicoforte, where we sit down for lunch together. After lunch, we head up – literally. A guided experience takes us inside and high into the extraordinary dome of the Sanctuary of Vicoforte. Then we get back behind the wheel and return via San Michele Mondovì and the Tanaro Valley, finishing the day at Villa d’Amelia. Dinner is on your own.

Cellars and backroads

Today we drive east toward Canelli, with time to stop for coffee along the way and enjoy lunch on your own when we arrive. In the afternoon, we meet at Contratto for a guided visit through its historic underground cellars. Then comes one of the best drives of the trip. We follow the Belbo Valley and head back through Barbaresco, surrounded by the vineyards that produce some of Italy’s greatest wines. After returning to Villa d’Amelia, we transfer to Trattoria Il Bivio for dinner.

Alba, Truffles & Nutella

The final day focuses on Alba, internationally known for white truffles, hazelnuts, and Italian confectionery heritage. The town is also the birthplace of Ferrero and Nutella, which originated here from local hazelnut traditions. After exploring Alba and the surrounding countryside, return the Alfa Romeos before transfer back to Turin Airport.

Italy

There is another Italy beyond the famous roads of Tuscany and the crowded shores of Lake Como. In Piedmont, vineyards roll across the hills beneath the Alps, medieval villages sit above quiet valleys and backroads still feel like backroads. For anyone who loves to drive, that combination is hard to resist.

This is the home of Barolo and Barbaresco, two of Italy’s legendary wines, both made from the Nebbiolo grape on the hills surrounding Alba. The Langhe landscape is now recognized by UNESCO, but it remains remarkably peaceful. Farther east, Canelli reveals another side of Piedmont’s wine culture, with historic cellars extending deep beneath the hills and a tradition built around some of Italy’s finest sparkling wines.

Not every stop is about wine. We drive through the Tanaro and Belbo valleys, visit towns rarely seen on a first trip to Italy and experience the extraordinary Sanctuary of Vicoforte. Its enormous elliptical dome is an architectural feat in itself – and our guided ascent takes us high inside the structure for an entirely different view.

Then there is the food. Piedmont is one of Italy’s great culinary regions: handmade tajarin, tiny agnolotti del plin, Fassona beef, hazelnuts from the Langhe and the famous white truffles of Alba. The cooking is deeply local and perfectly matched to the wines grown a few miles away. Combine all of that with a classic Alfa Romeo and miles of twisting country roads, and Piedmont starts to feel like one of Italy’s best-kept driving secrets.
